Suomenlinna, a historic sea fortress and UNESCO World Heritage Site, is one of Finland’s most popular destinations, attracting about a million visitors each year. The fortress, constructed in 1748 to protect the Eastern border and coast in wars against Russia, holds significant historical importance. In 1918, following the Finnish Civil War, Suomenlinna was transformed into a prisoner of war camp. Later that year, it was taken over by the Defense Forces and renamed Suomenlinna.
